Although I abhor ice-breakers as a rule, I do feel it's necessary here.
I am a middle school teacher and also a middle aged woman. I should move to Middle Earth! I teach Literature and Composition to 8th graders. If you're imagining a quiet room filled with scholars deeply focused on classic literature, you have the wrong image in your head. That is my dream.
Reality involves wrangling hormone obsessed teenagers into seats, realizing that none of them have done any of the assigned reading, and that this class is led by a slightly feral woman who is still recovering from chemotherapy. The aforementioned feral classroom teacher has also loudly declared the 2026-2027 school year to be "The Year of the Goose." Don't worry about that for now.
If you are game to fall down the rabbit hole, welcome to Words and Whimsy. Pull up a chair on my metaphorical balcony (which is littered with birdseed and nut shells, by the way).
